Knowing your correct base size is essential for creating a hair system that fits perfectly and looks natural. You can send us a template of your scalp, or you can measure your base size yourself by following these instructions.
Measure Base Size
Topper
To measure for a topper, follow these steps to determine the length and width of the area needing coverage:
Find Your Hairline:
- Start by locating your natural hairline. Typically, the hairline begins about four fingers' width above your eyebrows. If you are unsure, you can use a makeup pencil to draw a line where your hairline used to be.
Measure the Length:
- Place the cloth measuring tape at your natural hairline or the line you’ve drawn.
- Extend the tape measure to the area at the back of your head where you want the topper to end.
- Record this measurement to determine the length.
Measure the Width:
- Identify the widest part of the area that needs coverage, usually around the crown of your head.
- Place the cloth measuring tape at one side of this area and extend it to the other side, ensuring it lies flat against your scalp.
- Record this measurement to determine the width.
Full Cap
Creating a full cap template requires six measurements:
- Circumference: Measure around your head just above your ears.
- Front to Nape: Measure from your forehead hairline to the base of your neck.
- Ear to Ear Across Forehead: Measure from one ear to the other across your forehead.
- Ear to Ear Over the Top: Measure from one ear to the other over the top of your head.
- Temple to Temple Over Back: Measure from one temple to the other across the back of your head.
- Nape of the Neck: Measure the width of the base of your neck.

Helpful Hints for Taking Good Measurements
- Use a Cloth Measuring Tape: This ensures accuracy compared to a rigid tape measure.
- Avoid Tightness: Hold the measuring tape snugly but not too tight.
- Keep the Tape Flat: Ensure the tape is flat against your scalp and not twisted.
- Repeat Measurements: To ensure accuracy, take each measurement at least three times.
Once you have your measurements, you can proceed to the next step: choosing the base color.
